Joanne Conrad (77) of Mont Vernon, NH, died after 6 years of breast cancer treatment begun 28 years after previously entering remission.
A Connecticut Yankee, Joanne graduated from Central Connecticut State University with a BA in Sociology and earned her MA in Human Behavior from Catholic University in Washington, DC.
Commissioned as an Air Force officer in 1970, she then met Joseph, her husband of over 53 years, and extensively traveled the globe with him and alone.
Returning to the US in 1985, Joanne was an academic counselor at UNH for 22 years where she cherished her friends and delighted in working on the Women’s Commission.
A devoted reader, she was thrilled by her access to UNH-Durham’s library and was issued UNH-Manchester’s first library card. She further adored the Daland and GMILCS’ libraries’ catalogs and staffs.
Beyond her husband, Joanne is survived by her daughter, son, dogs Ruby and Jessie who miss their pal, and her sister and brother-in-law.
Joanne loved being part of Milford’s Church of Our Savior, expressed her thanks to the Solinsky Cancer Center for their steadfastness, and her final wish was for women to be their own best advocate in all things, at all times.
Funeral services were private. Burial was in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford.
