Joan M. Whitten

Joan M. Whitten, 91, longtime resident of Milford, NH, died on July 14, 2021 in Nashua, NH. She was born in Newport, NH on June 6, 1930, a daughter of Carl R. and Evelyn M. (Pillsbury) Anderson. Joan was raised and educated in Concord until the third grade when the family moved to Milford. She graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1948 and remained active in organizing high school reunions. Joan had been employed as a bookkeeper for McLeod Brothers for many years and retired from TD Bank where she was a receptionist. She was a member of the Board of Directors at the Pillsbury Home in Milford and also volunteered for the Share Program. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and grandmother who most especially loved spending time with her family and many friends. Joan was predeceased by her granddaughter, Kayla Whitten. Family members include her husband of 68 years, Chester A. Whitten, Jr. of Milford; three sons, Peter Whitten and his fiance Wendy Foss of Dover, NH, Jeffrey Whitten of Blackstone, MA, Gary Whitten and his wife Patte of Phoenix, AZ; a grandson, Keith Whitten; two sisters, Joyce Claire and her husband Douglas of Bow, NH, and Janet King of Anaheim, CA; several nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours will be held on Monday August 23rd from 4 pm to 6 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Share Foundation.
