Joan Curtis

Joan Curtis, 85, resident of Milford, NH, died on September 22, 2023, at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on June 10, 1938, in Lowell, MA, the daughter of Walter Nadworny and Leola (Trombly) Nadworny. Joan was raised and educated in Dracut, having graduated from Dracut High School, Class of 1956. Prior to moving to Milford last year with her daughter, she made her home in Rindge, NH for 45 years.

Joan was an employee of Pawprints Greeting Cards, Millipore Corporation and Bard Manufacturing. Her biggest role was being the best wife, mother, nana and great-grandmother.

She was born weighting 2 lbs 2 oz which gave her the fighting spirit and made her “Curtis Strong”. She met her husband of 61 years on a blind date on St Patrick’s Day 1962, at Ackerman’s Ball Room, Salem NH.

She was an avid football fan who loved watching the New England Patriots. Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was devoted to her family. Her favorite way to describe anything was this is “awesome”.

Family members include her loving husband of 61 years, Donald J. Curtis of Milford, NH, daughters; Kathy Vellucci of Nashua, NH, Colleen Johnson of Milford, NH and partner Steve Butler, Cathy Piekarski of Longwood, FL and partner Cliff Patterson, Candy Curtis and Mark Bergeron of Sanbornton, NH, Carrie Drew and her late husband Pete Drew of Jaffrey, NH, and late son Donald “DJ” Curtis Jr; eleven grandchildren, Brad, Adam, Carly, Nathan, Dylan, Bridget, Riley, Steven, Gillian, Jake and Bailey; five great-grandchildren, Lyla, Hayden, Isla, Naia and Mabel.

There are no visiting hours. Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford, NH. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Hospice House, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054 in memory of Joan Curtis.
