Jhan E. Choate, 93, resident of Amherst, NH died on March 27, 2016 at her home. She was born in Schenectady, NY on May 23, 1922, a daughter of John and Natalie (Pyne) English. She was a graduate of Emma Willard School in Troy, NY and later graduated from Finch Junior College in New York City. Mrs. Choate made her home in Amherst, NH since 1998 and formerly lived in Manchester, MA for more than 30 years. She was a former member of Myopia Hunt Club, Essex Country Club, Chilton Club, Singing Beach Club and Garden Clubs of America. In addition, she served as a Red Cross Nurse’s Aide in Schenectady, NY and elsewhere during World War II. Mrs. Choate served in the U.S. Women’s Marine Reserves and was discharged with the rank of Corporal. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles F. Choate who died in 1992 and a son, John E. Choate who died in 1968. She leaves four children, Natalie Choate Starr of Wellesley, MA, Cynthia Choate Bjorlie of Gloucester, MA, Charles F. Choate V of Amherst, NH, and Jhan Edith Choate of Gloucester, MA; beloved grandsons Charlie and Arthur Choate; and three nephews, Laurie, Buddy, and Tommy. A memorial visiting hour will be held on Tuesday, April 5th from 10:30-11:30 am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 am. Burial will be in Burnett Burial Park, Southborough, MA at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Patrick’s Church, P.O. Box 27, Milford, NH 03055.
