Jean B. Griffith

Jean B. Griffith died August 17, 2011 at Mount Carmel Nursing Home after a brief stay. She was born on February 11, 1920 to Horace D. Broun and Kathryn Ottoway Broun of North Carolina where Jean grew up on the sound. As a girl, she enjoyed horseback riding and swimming. She graduated from Winthrop College in South Carolina and taught art in both California and New York states. Jean met her husband to be, Richard Griffith, at a U.S.O. After the war, they married, ran a successful restaurant, and raised three children. In 1971, the family moved to Amherst, NH, where the couple spent the remainder of their lives together. They were married for 64 years until Richard’s death in September 2010. Jean dedicated her life to her family, her church, and helping others in need. She simply loved people and her joy was in giving. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn J. Goddard and her husband, Stanley of Deerfield, NH, her son, Richard T. Griffith and his wife, Julia of Mont Vernon, NH, and her son, David S. Griffith and his wife, Jennifer of Stockton, NJ. Family members also include nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Services were held on August 20th in the Household of Faith, Amherst, NH. Burial was in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst.
