Local Sculptor, Janos "John" Kover died of natural causes at home on February 18, 2008, aged 77 years.� Son of Karoly Kover and Margit (nee Kisspal).� He is survived by his sister, Rozsika (nee Kover) Kaptan, his brother, Ferencue Kover, and niece, Gyorgyne Kadar.� He was a beloved friend to all who knew him.�Janos arrived in Milford in the late 50s during Lent and immediately went to St. Patricks Church.� Since he did not speak English, the priest called Robert Philbrick because he knew that Robert spoke Hungarian.� The two were good friends from that day on and the Philbricks have many fond memories of Janos.� Other friends Janos made soon after his arrival were Ernest Rossi, Jr. then Postmaster of Milford, Vivian Curtis, Mr. & Mrs. Allan Hasu, Samuel Olen and Mr. & Mrs. Guy Franklin all of Milford.�Janos was a military cadet, a mechanic and member of a tank crew in the Red Army in Hungary.� That was where he developed his love for WWII tanks and trucks.�He had an extensive knowledge of the capabilities and history of Russian, German, and English tanks.� Janos also worked for the Central Beer Company in Budapest.�Janos came to this country as a sculptor to work in the Granite quarries.� However, since he wasnt used to working in granite and because of the language barrier, he found himself working as a laborer in the quarries.� Janos continued sculpting for his own enjoyment and created a large plaque of the Hungarian revolution that still hangs in the Hall of Flags in the New Hampshire Statehouse.�Janos took advantage of federal sponsored training classes and became a skilled welder, specializing in aluminum welding.� Over the years he worked at Barretto Brothers Granite Quarry, Draper Chevrolet, OK Tool and H & M Metals in Amherst.� There are no visiting hours.� Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 28th at 12:30 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford.� Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford.� Smith & Heald Funeral Home, Milford, is handling arrangements.��
