James P. Markham

James P. Markham, 85, resident of Alton Bay, NH , died January 10, 2009 in Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem, NC. He was born in Stoney Point, Ontario, Canada on January 9, 1924, a son of the late Abel S. & Beatrice (Reaume) Markham. Mr. Markham was raised and educated in Canada. In 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force. He trained and served as a bombardier with the 426th Squadron stationed in England. He flew bomber runs in Lancaster airplanes until he returned home from the war in 1946. Mr. Markham attended the University of Toronto and graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering in 1952. He began his working career for Koppers Company, a chemical company, in Pittsburg, PA. In 1955, he joined Hendrix Wire & Cable Company and was instrumental in moving the facility from the Boston area to its present location in Milford, NH. He worked as Product Development and Plant Manager until 1968, leaving to start his own business, Synthetic Products of Leominster, MA. In the late 1970�s, he sold his business and relocated to Illinois where in 1980 he founded Hotsplicer Corporation, a manufacturer of electrical components and retired in 2000. Mr. Markham had been a longtime resident of Milford, NH and later spent time between his cottage in Alton Bay, NH and wintering in Florida and Lewisville, NC. A longtime Rotarian, Mr. Markham was a member of the Milford Rotary Club and for the last 20 years he has been associated with O�Hare International Rotary Club in Illinois. An avid golfer, he was a 20-year member of the Manchester Country Club and 25 year member of the Biltmore Country Club in Barrington, Illinois. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen (Howell) Markham and his second wife, Pauline (Reaume) Markham; three brothers, Raymond Markham, Albert �Buster� Markham and Edward Markham. Family members include four sons and daughters-in-law, Peter Markham of Mount Pleasant, SC, Stephen & Karen Markham of Milford, NH, John & Jayne Markham of Barrington, IL, William & Melissa Markham of Houston, TX; a daughter and son-in-law, Gail & Kraig Heeringa of Lewisville, NC; a step daughter, Mary Reed of Glen Ellyn, IL; several grandchildren, Gwen & Doug Brewster of Lewisville, NC, Lori Newcomb of Lewisville, NC, Jack and Sean Markham, both of Barrington, IL, David Markham of Houston, TX; great grandchildren, Nathan and Abby Brewster of Lewisville, NC, Greyson and Aidan Newcomb of Lewisville, NC; a sister, Pauline St. Jacques of Dearborn, Michigan; several nieces and nephews.. Calling hours are Thursday, January 15th from 5-8 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 am in St. Patrick�s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford.
