James Eugene Glading

James Eugene Glading died peacefully at home February 26, 2016. Jim was born July 16, 1946 in Ft. Monmouth, NJ. He graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio in 1968 with a BA in English and served as an Ensign in the US Navy during the Viet Nam war. He married Judy Brophy in September 1968. He received a BS in computer science from Rochester Institute of Technology in 1977 and worked for various software companies for the next thirty years. He left computers to teach English as a Second Language after receiving a Masters in Language Education from Indiana University. He taught for NH Technical Institute, Daniel Webster College and Southern NH University. A member of Monadnock Quaker Meeting, Jaffrey, NH, he traveled nine times to Cuba to rebuild Quaker churches in eastern Cuba with Friends United Meeting. He retired in 2013. He was an avid geocacher and completed the 243 NH town challenge in December 2015, finding at least one geocache in each town in NH. He bicycled across the US in 1976. He loved to garden, hike and kayak. He was a voracious reader with a keen intellect and a dry sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Judy Brophy (Mont Vernon, NH) , his son, Seth Glading (Charlotte, NC), his mother, Elizabeth Glading (Brick, NJ), a sister, Ann Furnelli (South Hadley, MA), three brothers, Peter Glading (Brick, NJ), Robert Glading (South Hadley, MA) and Christopher Glading (Brick, NJ) and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial meeting celebrating Jim’s life will be held Saturday, April 2 at 1pm at the Monadnock Quaker Meeting, 3 Davidson Road, Jaffrey, NH.
