Irene M. Kokko

Irene M. Kokko, 92, longtime resident of Milford, NH, died July 16, 2010 at The Courville Nursing Home, Nashua, NH. She was born in Fitchburg, MA on February 14, 1918, a daughter of the late Edmund and Virginia (Belanger) Basque. Mrs. Kokko was raised and educated in Fitchburg and graduated from Fitchburg High School, Class of 1934. She moved to Milford in 1951 and resided in the same home located at 138 Union Street until 2005. In her earlier years, she had worked in the Veterans Department for the City of Fitchburg. She was a member of the Milford Women’s Club and Mooreland Club. In addition, she enjoyed playing bridge with the Souhegan Valley Seniors. Mrs. Kokko was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford. She was predeceased by her husband, Waino E. Kokko, who died in 1995. Family members include her son, Colonel Richard W. Kokko, USMC (Retired), and daughter-in-law, Theresa Kokko, of Chesapeake, VA; two grandchildren, Diane V. Kokko of Portsmouth, VA and Steven E. Kokko of Philadelphia, PA; a great granddaughter, Kaylee; and a brother-in-law, William E. Kokko of Milford. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 21st at 11:00 am in Riverside Cemetery, Nashua Street, Milford, NH.
