Irene Elaine (Fessenden) Thompson died at her home in Brookline, NH on February 20, 2019, from the complications of Alzheimer's disease, surrounded by family. Irene was born September 19, 1931 in Fitchburg, MA, the eldest child of Nason and Elsie (Beaubien) Fessenden. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister, Eleanor (Fessenden) Austin, her brother Nason Fessenden Jr, and her sister-in-law, Sandra (Safford) Fessenden. She was also predeceased by her ex-husbands, Ralph Naples and Keith Thompson. Irene is survived by her brothers, Allan Fessenden of Nashua, NH; Walter (Arthur) Fessenden and his wife Lee of Holly Springs, NC and Robert Fessenden and his wife Patricia of Madison, WI, and her sister-in-law, Joan (Bouley) Fessenden of Nashua, NH. She is survived by her five children, Elaine (Naples) Carlin and her husband Edward Carlin of North Attleboro, MA; Carol (Naples) Meagher of Milford, NH; Ralph Naples and his wife Nancy of Merrimack, NH; Keith F Thompson of Brookline, NH and Kevin Thompson and his fiancee, Michele Holley of Merrimack, NH; her ten grandchildren, James Carlin and his wife Tina of Norton, MA; Scott Carlin and his wife, Karen of Fairhaven, MA; Stacie (Naples) Labore and her husband Michael, of Merrimack, NH; Michael Naples and his wife, Amy of Bellingham, MA, Patrick Meagher and his wife Brittney of Milford, NH; Kimberly (Meagher) Tetro and her husband Scott, of Bedford, NH; and Joshua, Rachel, Benjamin and Hannah Thompson, and their mother, Marilyn (Scharf) Thompson of Nashua, NH; and her ten great-grandchildren, Matthew and Joseph Carlin; Travis Carlin; Christopher and Lily Labore; Brayden and Evan Meagher; Emma and Olivia Naples; and Brianna Tetro. Coming from a large, close family, Irene leaves behind many cousins, nieces and nephews. Irene grew up in Brookline, attending school in Brookline, and High School in Milford and graduated from Nashua High School in 1949. For the last 30 years of her working life, Irene was a cashier for Purity Supreme Supermarket in Boston, Rochester and Nashua. She retired to move to Brookline and care for her parents. In addition to enjoying her family, especially delighting in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Irene was a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics. She gardened enthusiastically, was known as an excellent cook, enjoyed reading and crocheting, and loved the many family pets that shared her journey. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, February 27th from 4:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10:00 am in the Brookline Community Church, 2 Main Street, Brookline, NH. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Brookline. In lieu of flowers, Irene's family asks that you support these worthy organizations: The Brookline, NH Historical Society, the Brookline Ambulance Service, the Brookline Public Library and Home Health and Hospice Care.
