Hope Kelly, 85, resident of Milford, NH died on November 26, 2022 at the Crestwood Center, Milford, after a period of declining health.


She was born in Mount Kisco, NY on August 30, 1937, a daughter of the late Robert and Jeanette (Mountan) Kelly. The oldest of four children, she attended a one-room school in Bedford Hills, New York through the fifth grade until her family moved to Briarcliff Manor, New York. She graduated from Briarcliff High School and Oswego State Teachers’ College in New York and received her master’s degree in Education from the University of New Hampshire. She moved with her parents to Ossining, New York where she continued to live after their deaths. She owned a cottage in Copake, New York for a number of years where she and her parents enjoyed summers and weekend get-aways with family and friends.


She was a Kindergarten/First Grade teacher for 34 years. Early in her career, she spent a year teaching at an Army Base in Bamberg, Germany. She retired from C.E.T. Elementary School in Croton, New York after teaching there for over 25 years.


She moved to Milford in May of 2005 to be near family. She was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Milford, attending Mass daily. She joined the Milford Garden Club where she made lasting friendships. She delivered Meals on Wheels and volunteered with SHARE in the Clothing Barn and Pantry Shelf. She spent two years at Ledgewood Bay Assisted Living in Milford before moving to Crestwood Center.


She was predeceased by her parents and her brother-in-law, David Carter. Left to cherish her memory are her brother Brian, his wife Beth and their children Ryan and Erin of Oregon, her brother Henry “Mike”, his wife Jane and their children Robert and Judy of New Jersey and California and her sister Mary Carter and her children, Michael, Ann and Robert of New Hampshire, and 13 ½ grandnieces and grandnephews.


The family wishes to thank the staff at Crestwood Center for the wonderful care they gave Hope over the past three years.


A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick’s Church in Milford on Friday, December 9, 2022 at 10:00 AM. It will be live streamed by visiting saintpatrickmilfordnh.org. She will be buried in the spring in Croton, New York alongside her parents.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in her memory to SHARE Outreach, Inc, 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055 or to Animal Rescue League of NH, Bedford, NH.
