Herbert W. Joki, 75, of Litchfield, NH, died January 11, 2009 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center, Nashua, NH after suffering a brief illness. Mr. Joki was born on July 16, 1933, the son of the late Waino and Hilma (Ekola) Joki of Ashby, MA. He was raised in Ashby, MA and graduated from Ashby High School in 1951. Mr. Joki was a talented baseball player, playing for both high school and town teams where he was approached by a local scout of the Boston Red Sox organization. Having a previous commitment to the military, he enlisted out of high school into the U.S. Navy where he trained at the Great Lakes Naval Center and was later stationed in Pensacola, Florida where he studied communications and electronics. After being discharged, he gained employment as an electrical engineer with Sanders Associates of Nashua, NH and worked in the electronics field throughout his career up until his retirement in 1998. Throughout the years, Mr. Joki enjoyed hobbies that included travel, boating, snowmobiling and carpentry in which he excelled to the point of dabbling in construction in the 1970�s. He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Dorothy (Austin) Joki of Litchfield; a daughter and son-in-law, Jill & William Duca of Alton Bay; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Paulette Joki of Litchfield, Chad and Leah (Doyle) Joki of Londonderry; two grandchildren, Kyle and Eric Duca. Memorial visiting hours are Friday, January 16th from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Humane Society for Greater Nashua, 24 Ferry Road, Nashua, NH 03064-8109 or to the charity of one�s choice.
