Henry J. Moreau, Sr.

Henry Joseph Moreau, Sr., resident of Wilton, NH, died on September 24, 2014 at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts. He was born in Swanton, Vermont on July 23, 1930, a son of Raymond E. and Adele M. (Giroux) Moreau. He was raised and educated in Swanton and made his home in Wilton for more than 60 years. Henry had been employed as a foreman at Abbot Worsted Mills in Wilton then as mechanic and store manager for Draper Fuel of Wilton for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting, farming and spending time reading, especially westerns. Many will remember his fervent pursuit of ridding local farms of nighttime pests and the baying of his coonhounds when that coon was treed. Henry had many loving titles Dad, Grampa, Papa by many generations of those he loved, nurtured and taught the meaning of honest work. Always applying his practical, frugal Yankee ingenuity to get the job done. An active compassionate friend who could not only talk and listen but do what needed to be done. Henry was a member of Pinnacle Mountain Fish & Game Club, a life member of Bent Burke Post #10 American Legion, Wilton and a 32 year member of the Wilton Volunteer Fire Department. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served proudly during the Korean War. He was predeceased by his wife, Jacqueline (Breen) Moreau, who died in 1999. Henry will be deeply missed by many. Family members include two sons, Henry J. Moreau, Jr. of Jaffrey, NH and Brian Moreau of Seattle, WA; two daughters, Sandra Moreau-Lizotte of Greenville, NH and Jayne Moreau of Milford, NH; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; two sisters, Doris St. Pierre of Fairfield, VT and Anna Gamache of Swanton, VT; a brother, Bernard Moreau of Zephyrhills, FL; many nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are on October 2nd from 6:00-8:00 p.m. in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial with military honors will be held on Friday, October 3rd at 10:00 am in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Abbot Hill Road, Wilton.
