She became a proficient seamstress, making many of her children’s clothing. She knitted beautiful mittens, hats, sweaters, and socks. The many braided rugs that adorned her home were braided and sewn herself, with some help from her children. She grew and canned vegetables and made jelly from homegrown berries. Hazel loved playing and watching sports. In High School she played basketball and tennis and would go out skiing on her wooden skis with leather bindings. After high school she went on to become a hairdresser until meeting Robert Milligan on a blind date in September, 1943. They married that December. Hazel had stunning and everblooming flower gardens. She was an avid reader, puzzle maker and birdwatcher. She walked to the Library, Post Office and General Store regularly. She was also a long-time member of the First Church of Christ Scientists in Milford, NH. Two of Hazel’s great loves were people and travel. Fortunately, she was able to travel around the globe, spending time with family near and far. Later in life she pursued an interest in painting, becoming a very accomplished artist and member of Keyes Art Group. Hazel drove her car and ran the apartment house she lived in until the age of 95 when she sold the house and finally retired. She is already greatly missed by her family and friends. There will be a celebration of life on June 25th at 10am in the Mont Vernon Village Green. In case of inclement weather services will be held at the Mont Vernon Congregational Church. Donations in her memory may be made to the Daland Memorial Library or a charity of your choice.
