Harland Wayne Winslow

Harland Wayne Winslow, 71, died suddenly, November 20, 2011 at his home in New Ipswich, NH. He was born in Kingston, NH, the son of Harland Albert and Pauline E. (Whitehouse) Winslow, who both predeceased him. Wayne attended schools in Kingston and in Caribou, ME and graduated from Sanborn Seminary in Kingston. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire and attended Hartford Seminary Foundation in Hartford, CT. On June 8, 1963, he married Joan Dorothy Salo, his beloved wife and best friend of 48 years. He dedicated his career to working with others, first as a social worker in Vallejo, CA and then as a juvenile probation officer and an adult probation officer at the Fitchburg, MA District Court. Wayne had many interests. He was an avid book collector and reader and regularly gave his friends books he thought would interest them. He was very knowledgeable about colleges and helped a number of young people as they considered their college decisions. He was interested in environmental issues and dreamed of becoming an environmental lawyer in his retirement. He was loved by many friends and family members. He is survived by his wife, Joan, of New Ipswich NH; his brother, Dale Winslow and his wife, Donna (Briggs) of Kingston NH; and several cousins, nephews, and one niece. A memorial service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held in the spring. Memorial donations in Wayne’s name may be made to the New Ipswich Conservation Commission, 661 Turnpike Road, New Ipswich, NH 03071 or the Souhegan Valley Ambulance Service, 435 Turnpike Road, New Ipswich NH 03071.
