George R. Driscoll

George R. Driscoll, 92, resident of Amherst, NH died at his home on Saturday, September 30, 2023, after a period of declining health. He was born on February 8, 1931 in Lynn, MA, to the late George T. Driscoll and Lillian (Howard) Driscoll.

George graduated from Lynn English High School in 1949, and later attended Vesper School in Boston, pursing his interest for art and illustration. A few years later George, met his wife, Elaine F. Wiley. They married October 6, 1956 and lived in Danvers, MA.

George enlisted in the U.S. Army, Corp of Engineers serving nine reserve years to be honorably discharged in 1960 at the rank of Sergeant First Class. As an illustrator he worked for AVCO at the beginning of Nasa Space Program. He worked along-side Engineers on rocket systems, nose cones, and the Apollo Space Shuttle. He joined Sanders Associates in Nashua, now commonly known as Lockheed Martin and BAE.

In 1965, The family moved to Amherst NH where they raised their three children and were active in the United Methodist Church. Favorite family activities included camping and hiking mountain trails. George had a Black Belt in Karate, a souped-up Chevy Truck and a BSA motorcycle.

George retired in 1997, which brought out a new creative ability for art and

woodworking. A Master Craftsman, he enjoyed making wooden toys, airplanes and carry carts for Cowboy Action Shooters, being a Cowboy himself. As time moved on, he joined the White Tops men’s group and enjoyed new friendships that helped shape his retirement years. We are forever grateful for their continued support and friendship.

George was a strong but gentle soul with an adventurous spirit and quick wit. We will forever miss his presence. The love and prayers from our MUMC family has lifted our spirits and strengthened our resolve.

George was predeceased by his daughter Nancy. Surviving family includes his wife Elaine, son David and Grandson Kyle of Keene NH, his daughter Sandra and companion Patricia of Exeter NH, and many cousins.
