George L. Smith, Jr.

George L. Smith, Jr., 89, resident of Amherst, NH died on May 5, 2014 at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Nashua, NH. He was born in New Boston, NH on November 17, 1924, a son of George L. Smith, Sr. and Ella (Cluche) Smith. He made his home in Amherst for more than 60 years. Mr. Smith had been employed as a truck driver for Quinn Freight Lines in Manchester, NH for many years. He was a member of Teamsters Local #633. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling, gardening and dancing. He was a lifetime member of the Monadnock Dance and Social Club, Inc. He most especially loved spending time with his family and getting together for family dinners. Mr. Smith was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy L. (Gagnon) Smith, who died in 1994. Family members include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne G. “Skip” and Bonnie Smith of Milford, Monty L. and Anita Smith of Lyndeborough; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rosemary and Normand Nadeau of Rindge, NH, Roxanne Smith of Tucson, AZ; his dance partner and best friend, Lorraine “Dolly” Fahey; six grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Falkowski of Nashua; several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are on Thursday, May 8th from 6:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A graveside service with military honors will be held on Friday, May 9th at 10:00 am in Riverside Cemetery, 454 Nashua Street, Milford.
