George J. Charland, 85, resident of Leesburg, FL died on July 14th, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a period of declining health.
He was born August 2, 1937, in Manchester, NH, son of the late Leonide and Cecile (Rivard) Charland.
George served honorably in the US Army Reserves while working as a Milkman and Bakery distributor. In 1964 he became an independent distributor for Pepperidge Farm for 35 years where his great nieces and nephews named him the “Cookie Monster”.
George and his loving wife Madeleine of 62 years raised their family in Milford NH for over 49 years. George was very active in the community joining the Jaycee, Milford Chapter where he served as President and received the prestigious Jaycee International award as JCI Senator Number 13491. After serving in the Jaycees, he continued to support the community by joining the Lions Club. He is best known for his involvement in decorating around the town oval at Christmas time and other town celebrations.
George enjoyed spending time with his family and friends swimming, camping, and snowmobiling. After retiring from Pepperidge Farm, he became an avid golfer and was a Member of the Amherst Country Club. In 2014, he relocated to Leesburg, FL where he could play all year round. He finally got his Hole in One on the 12th hole at Arlington Ridge Golf Course where he resided. He was also a member of the Celebration Baptist Church.
Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Madeleine (Wallace) Charland of Leesburg FL, his son John and wife Lauri O’Neil, children Meagan O’Neil, Zachary O’Neil, and Paige Brown and husband Brendon. Three Daughters, Deborah Hubert and son-in-law Paul Hubert, children David Hubert, Scott Hubert, and Mitchell Hubert. Lisa and husband Daniel Adams, children Angela and Justin Adams. Lori and husband William Skinner, children Jennifer Lydstone and Nicholas Skinner. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
George was predeceased by his granddaughter Angela Adams, eight brothers and sisters, Normand Charland, Leonide Charland, Clement Charland, Arthur Charland, Marietta Bossie, Mary Paul Magoon, Lorraine Lavoie, and Theresa Lemire.
Services will be held at Celebration Baptist Church on July 16,2023 at 2:00 pm in Leesburg FL. In Milford NH, calling hours at Smith and Heald Funeral Home on August 3rd, 2023, between 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, with graveside services at Pine Grove Cemetery in Brookline NH at 10:00 AM on August 4th, 2023.
