George D. Ackroyd

George D. Ackroyd, 68, resident of Milford, NH, died on December 9, 2013 at his home. He was born in Roxbury, MA on May 2, 1945, a son of George and Grace (Goodwin) Ackroyd. Mr. Ackroyd made his home in the Milford and Amherst area for over 25 years. He had been employed by Raytheon Corporation for 46 years and retired as a Senior Quality Engineer. He had a wonderful imagination and was quite a storyteller. He was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed science fiction. He was a loving husband, a devoted father and his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren. Mr. Ackroyd was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1967. Family members include his wife, Kathleen G. (Dobbins) Ackroyd of Milford; four children, David Ackroyd, Susan (Don) Bogdan of NH, Michael (Amy) Ackroyd of MA, Thomas (Tara) Ackroyd of NH; seven grandchildren, Joshua and James Bogdan, Evan, Emily and Collin Ackroyd, Zoe and Abigail Ackroyd; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Margie Howser, Martha and Tom Clum; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard and Donna Ackroyd, Donald and Audrey Ackroyd; and many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Thursday, December 12th from 5:00-8:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A private graveside service with military honors will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett, MA. A gathering for family and friends will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday at the home of Michael and Amy Ackroyd.
