Fredric R. Mason

Fredric R. Mason, 65, died August 13, 2011 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, after a lifelong battle with Cerebral Palsy. He was born in Nashua, NH on October 11, 1945, a son of the late Edwin E. and Jennie Marie (Greenough) Mason. Mr. Mason was a resident of Mont Vernon for the greater part of his life. In 1997, he moved to The Mill Apartments in Milford, NH and then in 2009, to the Laurel Center in Bedford, NH. He graduated in 1965 from Milford High School and had worked at Merrimack Metals, Merrimack, NH. He liked to draw, also to design and build things some of which were vehicles (Putt Putts) that he used for various jobs such as tree clearing, woodcutting, towing and plowing. He was a mechanic and a highly skilled welder. Additionally, he was a talented stone wall builder, taking care to select just the right field stones for the job. One was specially built at the foot of Grand Hill in Mont Vernon for a family friend. He enjoyed woodworking and reading was a favorite pastime for many years. He was an avid racing fan both locally as well as NASCAR. Mr. Mason was predeceased by his brother, James R. Mason and his sister, Joanne E. Lauziere. Family members include a brother, Robert E. Mason of Manchester, NH; a brother and sister-in-law, William C. and Leslie Mason of Milford; a sister and brother-in-law, Cynthia L. and Robert Hobbs of Clearwater, FL; a brother and sister-in-law, Dana Mason, Sr. and Helen Mason of Greenville, NH; a sister and brother-in-law, Mary L. and Mark C. Holt of Wilton, NH; many nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are Friday, August 26th from 4:00-6:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A private burial will take place at a later date in Greenlawn Cemetery, Mont Vernon. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to United Cerebral Palsy, 1660 L Street N.W., Seventh Floor, Washington, DC 20036 or the charity of one’s choice.
