Frederick Lorden, 93, lifelong resident of Milford, NH, died on July 6, 2016 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Milford, NH on June 29, 1923, a son of Dennis F. and Mildred (Schempp) Lorden. Mr. Lorden was raised and educated in Milford and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1941. He joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country during World War II in the 483rd Anti-Aircraft Artillery Battalion. He saw action at the Palau and Ulithi Islands and participated in the invasion of Iwo Jima. Mr. Lorden and his late brothers owned and operated Lorden Lumber Company in Milford until the mid-1980s. He was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Milford, where he had served on various committees and was also a member of the Milford Planning Board. He was a dedicated family man, whether it was teaching them about nature and the outdoors, learning a new sport or actively participating alongside them. Mr. Lorden was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed waterskiing, snow skiing and spending time at his camp on Lake Potanipo in Brookline. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Celia E. (Koivula) Lorden; two brothers, Francis Lorden and Kenneth Lorden; two sisters, Kathleen Halburg and Marian Lorden; and two sons-in-law, James Devine and Paul Jepson. Family members include eight children, Linda (Lorden) Devine, Elaine (Lorden) Schulze and her husband William, all of Amherst, NH, Norma (Lorden) Glow and her husband Dean, Irene (Lorden) Grant and her husband Robert, all of Brookline, NH, Charlene (Lorden) Cahill and her husband Michael of Palm Beach Gardens, FL, Marcia (Lorden) Rumore and her husband Louis of New Boston, NH, Dana Lorden and his wife Kristen of Hollis, NH and Michael Lorden of Milford, NH; 24 Grandchildren, Dennis and Chad Devine, Jill (Devine) Jubert, Pamela (Jepson) Lapierre, Jamie Glow, Ryan, Sara, Jared, Evan, Jessica, Hannah and Seth Cahill, Louis and Angela Rumore, Katie (Schulze) Nadeau, Dylan Schulze, Kasey, Trevor, Alexandra, Caroline and Samuel Lorden, Robert, John and Erin Grant; 10 Great Grandchildren, Arianna, Maddox, Evelyn, Timber, Riley, Paul, Micah, Noah, Adiela and Janessa; a sister, Dorothy Lorden of Epsom, NH; many nieces and nephews. There are no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 13th at 10:30am in the First Congregational Church of Milford, UCC, 10 Union Street, Milford, NH. Burial with military honors will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford.
