Francis X. Hiney

Retired Army Lt. Col. Francis X. “Frank” Hiney, 67, resident of Milford, NH, died at his home on October 29, 2013, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Brighton, MA on October 14, 1946, a son of Francis J. Hiney, Jr. and Loretto (Logue) Hiney. Mr. Hiney was raised and educated in Scituate, MA. He graduated from Archbishop Williams High School, Braintree, MA and St. Bonaventure College in New York. He was employed as a regional sales representative in the flooring industry for many years. Frank was an avid Boston sports fan especially of the Red Sox and Patriots. He had two cocker spaniels named after Coach Belichick and Tom Brady, Bella and Brady. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Wilton and Greenville, NH. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served in Vietnam and retired from the Army Reserves with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. During his distinguished military service, he earned numerous commendations and medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Service Medal with a V for Valor and one Oak Leaf Cluster and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Frank was predeceased by a sister, Julie Rocha and two brothers, Robert T. Hiney and Timothy Hiney. Family members include his wife of 41 years, Christel M. (Day) Hiney of Milford, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Rebecca Hiney of Snohomish, WA; a daughter, Christen Hiney of Milford, NH; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Kathleen Hiney of Lincoln, CA, Joan and Douglas McGarry of Easton, MD; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Debra Hiney of Exeter, NH, Michael and Rebecca Hiney of Cartersville, GA; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, April and Bhaskar Palekar of Milton, DE, Charles T. and Caren Day of Levittown, PA, and Jeffrey Day of Erwinna, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are on Friday, November 1st from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday at 11:00 am in Sacred Heart Church, Maple Street, Wilton, NH. Burial with full military honors will be held on Monday, November 4th at 11:30 am in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to New Hampshire Catholic Charities, P.O. Box 686, Manchester, NH 03105-0686.
