On the morning of Sunday October 2, 2022, Eugene Louis Langlais II of Amherst NH died peacefully at home surrounded by family at the age of 77.
Eugene was the son of Eugene Sr. and Alberia, born in 1945 in Lynn, Massachusetts. He attended Wayne State University in Detroit where he met his wife, Marie Antoinette Kelly in Chemistry class. They recently celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary. The couple had two sons, Eugene III and Paul Raymond.
He was a devout Catholic and a patriotic citizen. As a loving husband and devoted father, his greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Since an early age Eugene had a profound interest in science and technology. His favorite “toy” was a chemistry set, and as a teen he compiled a vast collection of articles and technical data on rocketry and the space program.
He began his career as chief chemist for a government classified-research company. He later co-founded Sage Technology, and subsequently held leadership positions at Polaroid Graphics Imaging and Presstek. Eugene dedicated over four decades to the development of products and processes that advanced the science of printing, making breakthrough technological discoveries while always focusing on human safety and environmental responsibility. He held over 40 patents on his innovations and was recognized as a leader in his field, as well as an experienced manager, businessman, and mentor.
Eugene’s love of science was matched by his love of nature. He was an avid gardener, and while living in San Diego had a collection of over 1,000 cacti. He was also a collector of tropical fish, at one time having 40 fish tanks.
Eugene is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Joseph Raymond and sister-in-law, Anita. He is survived by his wife, sons, several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Eugene’s final words were professions of love for his wife and two sons, and his absolute trust in Jesus Christ.
Funeral services will be private. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Amherst, NH.
