Ernest M. Reid, 97, resident of New Port Richey, FL, died on December 21, 2015 at Gulfside Center for Hospice Care at Heather Hill in New Port Richey, FL. He was born in Middle Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia, Canada on October 28, 1918, a son of Herbert W. and Annie (Bryson) Reid. He was raised and educated in Boston, MA. Mr. Reid was employed by the City of Boston as a police officer for 34 years and retired as a Sergeant. He held many memberships in various police associations and organizations. Mr. Reid was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained in the Battle of Guadalcanal. He was honorably discharged in 1944 with the rank of Sergeant. In addition, he was a member of Merrill’s Marauders and the VFW. He was predeceased by a son, James Reid, a daughter and son-in-law, Laura and James Cavanagh. Family members include his wife of 70 years, Florence D. (Turner) Reid of New Port Richey, FL; two sons, Douglas Reid of Milford, NH and Herbert Reid of Brockton, MA; three grandsons, Michael Reid, Brian Reid and Philip Cavanagh; five great grandchildren, Kalei Reid, Evan Reid, Chloe Reid, Danielle Cavanagh and Hunter Cavanagh; a brother, Paul S. Reid; nieces and nephews. Funeral services are private. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Mason Road, Brookline, NH.
