Emily G. Hueston

Emily Gardell Hueston, 85, died January 4th, 2011 at Hillsborough County Nursing Home in Goffstown, NH after a long journey with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in Elizabeth, NJ on December 8th, 1925, a daughter of the late Walter and Kathleen (Woodruff) Gardell. Emily was raised and educated in Elizabeth, NJ where she graduated from Batton H.S. She spent her childhood summers in East Waterford, Maine with her family. Emily attended Colby College in Waterville, Maine. Her first job as a lab technologist was in Bar Harbor, Maine. She retired from Lyons Veterans Administration Hospital in Warren, NJ in 1990. Her last 11 ½ years were spent in southern New Hampshire near her daughter, Karen Mayes. Emily enjoyed golfing, playing bridge, gardening, reading, and spending time with family and friends. Emily was fun loving and cared deeply for others. She always tried to help those who were less fortunate than her. Emily was predeceased by husbands, Charles Munson Burke, who died in 1985 and Robert Thomas Hueston, who died in 1999. Family members include three daughters and son-in-laws; Karen and Tim Mayes of Bedford, NH, Tom and Linda Brome of Louisville, Colorado, and Ron and Jan Williams of Bahama, NC; eight grandchildren, Brett Mayes and his wife, Lindsay, Kiersten Mayes, Thomas Brome, Jr., Megan Brome Yorio and husband, Nick, Elizabeth Brome Taylor, and husband, Mark, Ryan Brome and wife, Brittany, Daniel Williams and wife, Lindsey, and Douglas Williams; two great grandchildren, Miles Yorio and Charlie Mayes; and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at the Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains, New Jersey in the spring. In lieu flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O.
