Emilie M. Willard, 90, resident of Amherst, NH, died February 23, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital, Nashua, NH, following a brief illness and surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Lancaster, MA on December 2, 1921, daughter of Fred L. and Gladys E. (Tyler) Richards. Mrs. Willard resided in Amherst for the past 6 years and formerly made her home in New Ipswich for 60 years. She had been employed by Label Art Company, Wilton, NH for more than 20 years. Mrs. Willard took great joy in caring for others throughout her life and led a life of extraordinary service to her family, friends and community. She often shared treasured memories of her childhood, growing up on her family’s farm. Mrs. Willard loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed wild birds, flowers and the changing seasons of New Hampshire. She was an extraordinary grandmother; great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother who always took special delight in seeing the children learn and grow. She was a 73-year member of Miller and Watatic Grange, Grand Monadnock Pomona, NH State and National Granges and a long-time member of the Mayflower Rebekah Lodge of Wilton. She held numerous offices and worked actively in both organizations. Most recently she attended the Second Congregational Church of Wilton. She was predeceased by three husbands, Alden E. Piper, George R. Standley and Raymon C. Willard; her young daughter, JoEllen Mary Standley; a brother, Horace H. Richards; and a sister, Hattie M. Martin. Family members include her daughter, Camilie A. Twiss of Amherst, NH; a son, George M. Standley of New Ipswich, NH; two step daughters, Barbara Harling of Temple, NH and Nancy Rogowsky of Roanoke, VA; four grandchildren, Jonathan M. Standley, Kathe Wolf, Melissa M. Lynch and Brian R. Twiss; seven step-grandchildren; many great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and by her cat and faithful friend Gizmo. In accordance with her wishes there are no services. Donations in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
