Elwin E. Mccoy Jr.

SMSGT Elwin E. McCoy Jr. (Ret.) USAF, 89, died on November 15, 2018 at the Arbors of Bedford, Bedford, NH surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island on May 30, 1929, the son of Elwin E. McCoy Sr. and Margaret (McDonough) McCoy. He was a longtime resident of Nashua, NH and North Fort Myers, FL. Mac retired from the US Air Force as a Senior Master Sargeant in the Strategic Air Command after twenty-four years of honorable service to his country around the world. He served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam and was also a recipient of the distinguished Air Force Commendation Medal. Following his military career, Mac was employed in hospital administration working at Nashua Memorial Hospital (Southern NH Regional Medical Center), Nashoba Valley Regional Hospital and Parkland Medical Center. He had been a member of the Nashua Elks Lodge # 720, and the Punta Gorda Elks Lodge # 2606. In addition, Mac was a member of several bowling leagues and enjoyed and excelled at playing darts and horseshoes with his longtime friends and family. He was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Frank Carroll; and a brother, Robert McCoy. Family members include his beloved wife of 58 years, Catherine A. (Walsh) McCoy of Bedford, NH; four children, Patrick and Denise McCoy of Nashua, NH, Margaret and Robert Beck of Peterborough, NH, Kathleen and Mark Hoffhein of Milford, NH, Michael and Janine McCoy of Hookset, NH; four grandchildren, Patrick, Jessica, Trey and Meagan; one great-grandson, Lucas; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth McCoy of Fort Walton Beach, FL; a brother-in-law, William Walsh and his wife, Pat Walsh of North Ft. Myers, FL; three nieces and two nephews. Visiting hours are Friday, November 23rd from 3:00pm to 6:00pm, followed by a service at 6:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. Private burial with military honors will be held in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
