Elliot P. Lyon, Sr.

Elliot P. Lyon, Sr., 85, resident of Nashua, NH, died April 30, 2009 at The Hunt Community in Nashua. He was born in Waltham, MA on February 20, 1924, a son of the late Walter M. & Hazel (Arneson) Lyon. He was raised and educated in Waltham and graduated from Waltham High School, Class of 1942. Mr. Lyon had lived in Nashua for a short time and formerly resided in Moultonborough, NH for 20 years and Amherst, NH for 23 years. He had been employed as a Captain for Eastern Airlines for 34 years, having retired in 1984. His professional memberships included the Airline Pilots Association, Retired Eastern Airlines Pilots Association and the Retired Officers Association. While living in Amherst, he was very active in community affairs. Mr. Lyon had served as a Selectman, as a member of the Planning Board, and the Zoning Board, had been an active member and later an honorary member of the Fire Department and had also served on the road commission. He and his wife Jean were honored as Citizens of The Year in 1987. Following his move to Moultonborough, he was a member and Chairman of the Zoning Board. Mr. Lyon was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, Milford and Trinity Episcopal Church of Meredith. He was a member of �The Greatest Generation� having served his country honorably as a Naval Aviator during World War II. Mr. Lyon enjoyed traveling, attending NASCAR races with his sons, boating on Lake Winnipesaukee and playing bridge. He especially loved spending time with family and friends. He was predeceased by a brother, Robert and his infant sister, Marilyn. Family members include his wife of 58 years, Jean E. (Leishman) Lyon of Nashua, NH; three sons, Elliot P. Lyon, Jr. (Chip) and his wife, Dawn of Mont Vernon, NH, Peter Lyon and his wife, Elizabeth (Lisa) of Amherst, NH, Douglas Lyon and his wife, Shelley of Milford, NH; five grandchildren; Nathan Lyon and his wife, Susanne, Charles Lyon, Erik Lyon, Alexander Lyon and Rebecca Lyon; a great grandchild, Mitchell Lyon; many nieces and nephews. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 7th at 3:00 pm in the Trinity Episcopal Church, 93 Route 25, Meredith, NH. Private burial will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Amherst, at a later date.
