Elizabeth G. Wing

Elizabeth Gim Wing, age 94, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 6, 2019. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to a hard-working family, Elizabeth was the fifth child of eleven, lively children. “Liz” often shared stories about her childhood in Boston, especially about the time that she fell into the water at Boston Common and her sister Anne had to pull her out. The Gim family moved from Boston to Cincinnati, OH, when Liz was in ninth grade. As a young woman, Liz ventured to New York City where she was introduced to her future husband, Harding Wing, at a dance. They married in New York City on New Year’s Eve and celebrated over 60 years together. They raised their three children, Bunny, Douglas and Carol in Rye Brook, NY. The Gim and Wing extended family now reaches from coast to coast. Elizabeth loved life, sunshine, gardening and learning. A chemist by profession, she was an environmentalist with a degree in Environmental Science. She was sentimental and appreciated the kindness of others, especially her friends and neighbors in Rye Brook and Montauk. Her cherished garden full of peonies, irises, hostas and lilies was shared with many friends. Later in life Elizabeth moved to New Hampshire where she had the good fortune to be loved and cared for by “the best people in the whole world”, who brought her joy every day. She enjoyed breakfast with her friends, lunch with Peggy, wonderful music, and yoga. Elizabeth is survived by her daughters, Bunny and Carol (husband Thomas), their children, Andrew (wife Elaine) and Nicole. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Harding, son Douglas, and granddaughter Alexis. The extended, lively family of Gim and Wing relatives carries on the family traditions. Donations may be made at www.gofundme.com/come-sit-with-me-awhile for a memorial at Crawford Park, Rye Brook, New York. A memorial service will be held in New York. Interment will be beside Elizabeth’s husband at Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
