Elizabeth B. Ikerd, 78, resident of Amherst, NH, died peacefully surrounded by her family on November 9, 2012 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH. She was born in Webster, MA on April 28, 1934, a daughter of the late Bror W. and Irene C. (Seale) Bergstrom of Ossipee, NH. Elizabeth made her home in Amherst since 1970 and formerly lived in Medway, MA. A graduate of Montpelier High School, Vermont in 1952, she also graduated from Fisher College, Boston. Over her lifetime, she held professional positions with General Electric, Jack & Jill Kindergarten, Kopf & Talpey Lighting, Martech Communications and retired from Xilinx, Inc. of Nashua in early 2001. Elizabeth attended many writing and art workshops and authored poems and stories published in the RISE Journal. She was a watercolor artist and donated much of her work to charitable organizations. An active member of The Congregational Church of Amherst, Elizabeth served on many committees including Deacons, Trustees, Christian Education, World Service Committee, prayer shawl ministry, Women’s Association and was a student mentor. Elizabeth was also very involved in her community and served on the Crop Walk Committee and Dollars for Scholars Committee Souhegan Chapter. She was a loving wife, a devoted mother and an amazing grandmother. Family members include her husband of 54 years, Edward E. Ikerd of Amherst; two daughters, Martha E. Ikerd and her husband, Paul Desrochers of Boxborough, MA; Stacey I. Herrman and her husband, Eric of Stonington, CT; a son, Greg E. Ikerd and his wife, Lisa of West Wilton, NH; four grandchildren, Nathan I. Desrochers, Nicholas I. Herrman, Olivia B. Desrochers and Danielle E. Herrman; a sister, Carol A. Lundgren of Wakefield, NH; a brother, Robert H. Bergstrom of Post Falls, Idaho; several nieces and nephews. There are no visiting hours. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on November 24, 2012 at 1:00 pm in The Congregational Church of Amherst, 11 Church Street, Amherst. Burial will be in North Cemetery, Oxford, MA, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Kurn Hattin Home, P.O. Box 127, 708 Kurn Hattin Road, Westminster, VT 05158 or to the Community Hospice House, 210 Naticook Road, Merrimack, NH, 03054.
