Edward F. Clark

Edward F. “Eddie” Clark, 98, resident of Milford, NH died on November 19, 2017 at the Community Hospice House, Merrimack, NH surrounded by his two beloved daughters. He was born in West Quincy, MA on February 7, 1919, a son of John R. and Celina (Belleveau) Clark and has made his home in Milford since 1929. Mr. Clark often reminisced about his childhood memories of growing up in “the acre”, as those were some of the happiest times. Finances were critical during the Depression and as a young teen he spent his Saturday’s hauling granite blocks at Robert’s Quarry on Mont Vernon Road. He began his career as a furniture maker for French & Heald Company in 1938. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and completed his basic training in the states in June of 1944. He participated in the Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe Campaigns and as a member of the Reconnaissance Company, 774th Tank Destroyer Battalion, he received four battle stars and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, for heroic achievement after he braved intense enemy mortar fire to cross the Saar River and evacuate a wounded soldier. Mr. Clark was honorably discharged in 1945 with the rank of Sergeant and was very proud to be a World War II veteran. As a member of the Greatest Generation, he held all veterans in high esteem, often donating money to veterans’ charities because he was disheartened by the way other veterans from recent wars were treated upon their return. After being discharged from the service, he resumed his job at French & Heald Company, later Sprague & Carleton Furniture Company and retired from Triangle Pacific Company, Nashua, NH. He enjoyed playing baseball, softball and listening to big band music. He loved to go dancing with his wife and while the orchestra was on break, Eddie would play the piano and harmonica. He loved his home and could often be found puttering around the house and was able to fix just about anything. Mr. Clark was a founding and charter member of the Harley Sanford Post #4368, VFW, Milford. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Marie J. (Stimson) Clark, who died in 2012; four brothers, George Clark, John R. Clark, Jr., Albert Clark and Francis Clark; and a son-in-law, Donald L. Barrett. Family members include his two daughters, Karen Clark of Milford and Cheryl Barrett of Merrimack, NH; a sister, Carol Levesque of Nashua, NH; a sister-in-law, Elinor Stimson of Nashua, NH; several nieces and nephews. Eddie would never say goodbye, always “until we meet again”. A visiting hour will be held on Saturday, November 25th from 10:00-11:00am in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am. Burial with military honors will be in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Home Health and Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054 or Church of Our Saviour, 10 Amherst Street, P.O. Box 237, Milford, NH 03055.
