DOUGLAS C. WRIGHT � DATELINE:�MILFORD, NH � Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Douglas C. Wright, 85, resident of Milford, NH, died November 28, 2007 at his home. � He was born in Milford, NH on January 14, 1922, a son of the late Raymond C. & Winifred A. (Bowler) Wright.� � He was raised and educated in Milford.�He enlisted in the Army Air Corp on September 1, 1942. He flew as chief engineer on C-46 Cargo planes to India, China, Australia and the Pacific Islands.�In the invasion of Luzon, his plane was attacked by six Japanese Zeros and all but he and the pilot were killed in the crew of five.�With the plane afire and without landing gear, the two men miraculously survived a crash landing.�He was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters and the Purple Heart.�His military career spanned more than 20 years and he retired in 1964. � Following his retirement from the Air Force, he worked for Electra Scientific Corporation in California for more than 15 years and returned to New Hampshire in 1981.� � He enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading and trips to Rockingham Park.�In his earlier years, he was a Little League Umpire. � Mr. Wright was a member of Ricciardi Hartshorn Post #23 American Legion, Milford. � Family members include his wife of 66 years, Louise (Lowe) Wright of Milford, NH; two daughters, Donna E. Wright of Milford, Jacqueline Wright of Newport Beach, CA; and a brother, Forrest Sy Wright of Hollis, NH. � There are no visiting hours.�A service will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2007 at 1:00 pm in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.�In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, Gail Singer Memorial Building, 360 Route 101, Unit #8, Bedford, NH�03110-5032.�Smith & Heald Funeral Home, Milford, is in charge of arrangements.�
