Dorothy S. Ullrich

Dorothy S. Ullrich, 90, former longtime resident of Amherst, NH, died on June 16, 2024, at the The Golden Crest Assisted Living Facility in Franklin, NH. She was born on June 13, 1934, in Queens, NY, a daughter of the late Paul and Amelia (Hoffman) Schwefel. She was predeceased by her older brother Paul Schwefel, and older sister Marie (Schwefel) McGurn.

She married Bruce Ullrich on March 5th, 1955 and together raised their large family in Syosset, NY and then moved to Amherst, NH in 1976 where they resided for many years.

While their family was young, they spent many summers on Lake Winnipesaukee, where they enjoyed swimming and boating, picnics and jeep rides in an old Willys jeep down back country roads.

Together, she and Bruce purchased a small cottage in Sheepscot, Maine in the early 1990’s and spent many summers on the Maine coast where she enjoyed going to “Dad’s” beach, eating lobsters on the pier, and morning coffee on the front porch.

At the center of her life in Amherst was her wonderful marriage to Bruce and spending time with her friends and family. She was a loving grandmother to her fifteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the Amherst Congregational Church and the Women’s Association, where she developed true friendships. She also enjoyed her home and gardening, and long rides with Bruce.

Her loving husband Bruce passed away in March of 2018. Survivors include her children, Andy Ullrich of Nashua, NH, Larry and (Madeline) Ullrich of Westmoreland, NH, Rick and (Cindy) Ullrich of Brookline, NH, Caryn and (Tom) Gwizdala of Wolfeboro, NH, Beth and (Dino) Tsamparlis of Eliot, ME, Cindy and (Hank) Furnbach of Freedom, NH, fifteen grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: Calling hours will be Sunday, June 23, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 24, 2024, at 10:00 AM in the Amherst Congregational Church, 11 Church Street, Amherst, NH. Burial will follow in the Meadowview Cemetery, Foundry Street, Amherst.
