Doris Irene (Thomas) Fonden

Doris Irene (Thomas) Fonden, age 82, a longtime resident of Milford, NH, passed away on May 23rd, 2009 at The Community Hospice House of Merrimack, NH in the arms of her husband of 58 years, Carl G. Fonden. Doris was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on May 16th, 1927, the daughter of the late Charles E. C. Thomas and the late Margaret Irene (Jones) Thomas, and the fraternal twin of Charles W. Thomas. Doris was raised and educated in Canada. Upon completing her nursing degree, she began her career in nursing in Sacramento, CA. While there she met and later married her husband, Carl G. Fonden, a World War II veteran who later retired as a Lt Col from the USAF. Doris, a faithful and very loving Christian woman, was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church. Professionally she served as a Registered Nurse, caring for people in both Hospital and Nursing Home settings. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a PTO Volunteer, a Helping Hands Volunteer, and as a Christmas Shoebox Annual Contributor to �Operation Christmas Child�. She also served as the last President of the former Milford Women�s Club. She was very talented in needlework, crocheting, knitting and playing the piano. She especially enjoyed her extensive travels with her husband throughout Europe, the Mediterranean and Israel. Doris and her husband, Carl, have three children, nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Their three children are son and daughter-in-law Robert W. and Carol J. (Schroepfer) Fonden of Nashua, NH, son and daughter-in-law Ronald G. and Ruth R. (Bruneau) Fonden of Federal Way, WA, and daughter and son-in-law Diane J. (Fonden) Nederveld and Jon O. Nederveld of Longmont, CO. Their nine grand-children are Stephen and Laura; Christin, Rebekah, Melanie and Elisabeth; and Brian, Christopher, and Andrew. Their five great-grandchildren are Katherine; Aaliyah; and Xavier, Quentin, and Melodi. Doris� brother Charles, who is retired from The Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and his wife Frances G. (Donnelley) Thomas reside in Hope, British Columbia, Canada. Visiting hours are on Wednesday, May 27th from 4:00-7:00 pm at the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford NH. 03055.
