Denis J. Looney, Sr.

Denis J. Looney, Sr., 86, longtime resident of Bedford, NH, died in Brentwood, NH on November 21, 2023 after a period of declining health.

He was born in Manchester, NH on February 9, 1937, a son of George B. & Agnes (Griffin) Looney. Denis was raised and educated in Manchester, NH and graduated from Bishop Bradley High School, Class of 1955 and Saint Anselm College, Goffstown, NH in 1959.

Denis made his home in Bedford, NH for more than 50 years and had owned Denis Looney Fuel Company.

He was a longtime communicant of St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Bedford. Denis was a former chairman of N.H. Catholic Charities, a founding member of Saint Anselm Century Club, Past President of N.H. Petroleum Dealers Association, a longtime sponsor of the Babe Ruth Baseball League in Manchester. For many years, he belonged to Manchester Men’s Senior Softball. In addition, he enjoyed golfing, horse racing, and a fine cigar.

Denis was predeceased by his loving wife of 61 years, Carol A. (Dvareckas) Looney, who died in 2020.

Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith A. & Thomas Gagne of Simpsonville, SC, and Kelly A. & Paul Dallaire of Nottingham, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Denis J. Looney, Jr. & Tracie MacDonald of Goffstown, NH; eight grandchildren, Jeffrey, Katherine, Colin, Sean, Jack, Rachel, Madelyn and Emily; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial visiting hours are on Saturday, December 2, 2023 from 10:00am-1:00pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Hudson, NH, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 190 Meetinghouse Road, Bedford, NH 03110.
