Clement "Clem" Lamarre

Clément Denis Lamarre (“Clem”) of Milford, N.H., beloved husband of 63 years of Brenda Ann Baroody Lamarre, peacefully passed away at the age of 91 on March 9, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Sanford, ME, he was the seventh of eight children of Ovila and Venelda Lamarre. Clem is now reunited in Heaven with his sisters Sylvia, Gabrielle, Venelda, Claire, Jacqueline, and his brother Gilbert, undoubtedly catching up in French, their primary language.

He is survived by his youngest brother, André Lamarre of Briarcliff, NY. Clem was the father of ten children, all of whom claim to be his favorite: Renée (Gardiner) and her husband Joseph of Nashua, NH and their children Claire and Mary; Andréa (Carey) and her husband Robert of Longmeadow, MA and their children Anna and Lauren; Clement Lamarre, Jr. and his wife Terri of South Dartmouth, MA and their children Jack and Julia, Jean-Pierre Lamarre and his wife Lisa of Providence, RI and their children Stephan, Sarah, and Sophia; Jacques Lamarre and his husband Arthur Galinat of Manchester, CT; Gilbert Lamarre and his wife Patty of Riverview; FL and their daughter Jillian and Clem’s great-granddaughter Aurora; daughter-in-law Rebecca and son Paul of Wakefield, MA and their children Georgia and Benjamin; Marie-Claire and her husband Jeff Tomkins of Vineyard Haven, MA and his daughter Ellie; Charles Lamarre of Revere, MA; and Jacqueline (Petrella) and her husband Steven of Simsbury, CT and their children Katherine and Michael. In addition to his many children and grandchildren, he also dearly loved his many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and his extended family of cousins from Sanford.

Clem served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a proud graduate of Villanova University with a BA in English. Immediately following college, he worked at the Devereux Schools, a school for challenged youth, as both an educator and a camp counselor, the period during which he met Brenda, who was a fellow employee. He worked for over 25 years as an international executive for Digital Equipment Corporation (Maynard, MA).

He started his professional career working at General Electric’s Missile and Space Division (Valley Forge, PA), and concluded by working at Affinity (Columbia, SC). Clem and Brenda raised their children in Chester Springs and Berwyn, PA; Acton, MA, and finally settled in Amherst, NH in 1976. He and Brenda moved to his final home in Milford, NH in 2018. Holding a special devotion to his Catholic faith and the Holy Family in particular, Clem was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Milford and a member of the Knights of Columbus. His deep and abiding faith was the bedrock of his marriage, his exemplary parenting, and an ethical life well-lived.

He was an avid cribbage player, gardener, reader, traveler, and music lover, with particular favorites being Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, and opera. Clem was a die-hard fan of Boston sports, particularly the Boston Bruins. He enjoyed being the life of the party, always telling jokes, stories, and singing songs. His French-Canadian heritage brought him much joy, evidenced by extensive genealogical study of his family’s roots and his profound love of meat pie, crêpes, and maple sugar candy. He also enjoyed Milford’s Cafe on the Oval grilled cinnamon rolls, Krispy Kreme donuts, and hot dogs, whenever he could sneak them. He was a true friend, a principled professional, a cherished brother, a caring uncle, the G.O.A.T. father to his children, Pop-Pop to his grandchildren and great-grandchild, and the love of Brenda’s life.
