Charlie Woods Sylvester, 83, resident of Amherst, NH, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 24, 2016. He was born in Ayer, MA on June 27, 1932, a son of Roy and Lottie (Woods) Sylvester. He was raised in Pepperell, MA, graduated from Fitchburg High School and Fitchburg Trade School. Charlie made his home in Pepperell, MA for many years and later moved to Amherst, NH. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed by Vibrac Corporation in Amherst, NH for 25 years. In addition, he had developed a part for a camera that went to the moon. Charlie loved antique cars and owned a 1932 Ford. He also enjoyed working on and repairing antique wheel barrows and wagons. He was honored to serve his country as an aircraft mechanic in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was discharged in 1956 with the rank of Airman First Class. Charlie was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Helen (Sylvester) Morally and Palmer Morally. Family members include his wife, Mildred Silver Sylvester of Amherst, NH; a step daughter, Deborah Silver Walters and her husband, William Walters of Hollis, NH; a stepson, Edmond Silver and his wife, Diane Silver of Gilford, NH; five grandchildren, William Walters, Jr. of Merrimack, NH, Tammy Bieren and her husband, Jeff Bieren of Litchfield, NH, Edmond Silver III and his wife, Jessica Silver of Townsend, MA, Lisa Lavery and her husband, KC Lavery of Townsend, MA, and Lisa Slade of Nashua, NH; several great grandchildren and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 30th at 11:00 am in the Community Church of Pepperell, 3 Townsend Street, Pepperell, MA. Burial will be private in Pepperell Cemetery, Pepperell, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 2 Wall Street, Manchester, NH 03101.
