Charles J. Knox, 78, resident of Merrimack, NH, died November, 4, 2011, at the V.A. Medical Center, Manchester, NH, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Owego, New York on May 2, 1933, a son of Harold and Helen M. (Heffner) Knox. He was raised and educated in Owego and graduated from Owego Free Academy. Mr. Knox resided in Merrimack for the past 17 years and formerly made his home in Milford for 37 years. He had been employed as a Field Engineer for Sanders Associates for more than 25 years. He enjoyed fishing, flying remote control airplanes and was a ham radio operator. Mr. Knox was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran having served during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1954, with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a former communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford and a member of the fourth degree Knights of Columbus Council No. 3035, Milford. Family members include his wife of 57 years, Helen M. (Kearney) Knox of Merrimack, NH; four daughters and sons-in-law, Maryanne Waterhouse of Greenfield, NH, Barbara and Michael Lussier of Bedford, NH, Sandra and David Kolehmainen of Greenfield, NH, Peggy and Dave Huntley of Canyon, TX; 10 Grandchildren; 8 Great Grandchildren; a brother, Edward Knox of PA; several nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are Tuesday, November 8th from 4:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A memorial mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will be at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to V.A. Medical Center, 718 Smyth Road, Manchester, NH 03104 for the Palliative Care Unit.
