It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Charles “Charlie” Marsh Fairchild, who passed away peacefully on April 1, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on October 20, 1934, in Derby, Connecticut, to Charles and Edythe Fairchild. At the age of 15, Charlie moved with his family to Milford, New Hampshire. At just 16 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served aboard the USS Ticonderoga. After completing his service, he worked for the United States Postal Service, retiring after 35 years of service.

Charlie married the love of his life, Nancy Clement in September 1964. His devotion to his family was unwavering, and he was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He had many passions in life. He was an avid rail enthusiast, with a special love for the New Haven rail line and was a dedicated collector of HO scale model trains. He was a proud member of the Granite State Antique Auto Club, where his love for classic cars, especially his vintage Fords, was well known.

Charlie was also known for his strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family. To support his loved ones, he worked a second job at Mack Carter’s Mobile Station at the Milford Oval. His dedication was evident in all aspects of his life, and it was during this time that he built his own two-story Gambrel-style barn garage—a testament to his hardworking nature and skillful hands. This space became a cherished part of his life, where he spent countless hours restoring classic cars with friends and family and continuing to nurture his love for all things mechanical.

Charlie is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Nancy Fairchild; their children, Julie, Charles (Chuck) and his wife Melody, and Cynthia (Cindy) and her husband Scott; along with many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, all of whom will carry his memory forward. He was predeceased by his sisters Harriet Ramsey and Margaret Fairchild. He is survived by his brothers, Thomas and Michael Fairchild, and sisters, Beverly Fulgoni and Joan Miller. His kindness, generosity, and infectious sense of humor will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054. Arrangements are in the care of Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. To share a memory or offer a condolence, please go to www.smith-heald.com
