Catherine A. (Walsh) McCoy

Catherine A. (Walsh) McCoy, 85, died on January 30, 2025, at Fairview Nursing Home, Hudson, NH surrounded by her family.

She was born in Providence, Rhode Island on March 16, 1939, the daughter of the late William Walsh and Florence (Lemoi) Walsh.

Known to many as “Katie,” she grew up in Providence and graduated from Central High School, Class of 1957. She was employed for a brief time at Narragansett Electric Company, until she married Elwin “Mac” McCoy, to whom she was married for 58 years before his passing in 2018. While her husband served in the United States Air Force, she was a devoted military spouse, traveling the world with four young children while also volunteering her time to visit wounded soldiers at military hospitals. After her husband’s retirement from the military, the family settled in Dover, NH while Katie stayed at home with the children. After a few years, the family moved to Nashua, NH, and soon Katie began her own career at various companies, including Matthew Thornton Health Plan, Centronics Corporation, and Digital Equipment Corporation from where she retired in 1994.

Once retired, Katie and her husband moved to North Ft. Myers, Florida. When they first moved there, Katie could not sit still, so she worked various temporary jobs before working for the City of Fort Myers. After her working career ended, she volunteered as secretary on the Board of the retirement community she lived in, as well as a volunteer driving elderly patients to and from appointments as needed. She and Mac were quite involved with the activities in their community and at their church, St. Francis Xavier. Katie loved to sing and was a member of the local choir. She and her husband enjoyed traveling with friends to Bermuda, Europe, Hawaii and Alaska, and always cherished the visits with their grandchildren. After 24 years in Florida and due to declining health, they moved back to NH to be closer to family.

Family members include her children, Patrick and Denise McCoy of Nashua, NH, Margaret and Robert Beck of Peterborough, NH, Kathleen and Mark Hoffhein of Milford, NH, and Michael and Janine McCoy of Hooksett, NH; four grandchildren, Patrick, Jessica, Trey and Meagan; one great-grandson, Lucas; a brother, William Walsh and his wife, Pat Walsh of Port Charlotte, FL; three nieces and two nephews.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank Fairview Nursing Home and Home Health & Hospice Care for the loving care and attention our mother received; your dedication and caring for the residents did not go unnoticed.
