Bruce S. Pow

Bruce Sidney Pow, 94, resident of Manchester, NH died on Friday, December 21, 2012 at the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. He was born in Manchester on May 14, 1918, the son of Walter S. and Blanche (Hovey) Pow. Mr. Pow was a resident of Manchester for most of his life and had lived in Deering, NH and Goffstown, NH. At the time of his death, he was a resident at Villa Crest Nursing and Retirement Center in Manchester. He graduated from Central High School, Class of 1936 and earned an Associate’s Degree from Lowell Technical School. Mr. Pow was a U.S. Navy veteran having served during World War II as an Aviation Machinist Mate and was honorably discharged in 1945. After his discharge, Mr. Pow continued to work for Arms Textile Mills, followed by more than 25 years at Georgia Pacific Corporation. In his retirement, he worked at Country Three Corners Store in Weare, NH; retiring at the age of 84. He was a member of Grace Episcopal Church of Manchester. In addition, he was a member, instructor and former Commander of the Amoskeag Power Squadron. An avid sailor, Mr. Pow spent many summers with his family sailing along the New Hampshire and Maine coasts aboard his beloved boat the ”Serendipity”. He was a member of American Legion Post 79, a member of the Lafayette Lodge of Freemasonry, as well as the Boston Navigators Club. He was predeceased by his wife, Emily M. (Longfellow) Pow, a son, Clifton R. Pow as well as his three siblings; Robert Pow, Walter Pow and Marjorie( Pow) Horne. Family members include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Janet R. Seiler of Morriston, FL, Pamela D. and Stephen Thompson of Hudson, NH and Andrea L. and James Conway of Bedford, NH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stanford B. and Carol Pow of Bedford, NH, Gordon R. and Patricia Pow of Belgrade, ME; daughter-in-law Karen L. Pow of Bedford, NH; 15 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; 3 Great Great Grandchildren; his sister-in-law Laurette Pow, his brother-in-law Herbert Horne and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to express its sincere gratitude to the entire community at Villa Crest for its excellent care and friendship. They would also like to thank the nursing staff at the Elliot Hospital for their kindness and compassion. At his request, all services and military burial will be private.
