Bartolo V. Prestipino

Bartolo V. “Bart” Prestipino, 89, lifelong resident of Milford, died August 25, 2012, surrounded by his loving family at the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH. He was born in Milford on October 12, 1922, the son of Anthony and Virginia (Patti) Prestipino and graduated from Milford High School after which he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Bart was employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Milford for 37 years, serving in a variety of positions including Postmaster for a short period of time. Active in civic affairs, Bart served several years on the Board of Selectmen for the Town of Milford but was proudest of his contributions toward the development and building of the St. Joseph Home and Hospice Care on North River Road. He also served as an incorporator for the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, was a member of the New Hampshire State Legislature and was active in the Republican Party locally and at the state level. Bart was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church, Milford, where he ushered for more than 40 years. A man of few words, Bart will best be remembered for his selflessness and quiet steadiness. He instilled deep values in his children and grandchildren, modeling honesty, integrity, and commitment. He was a man whose word was his bond. Bart contributed to a strong sense of community in the town he loved so much, and in his own neighborhood in particular, a kindness which was returned to him and his wife many times over. An avid walker, Bart was known around Milford as “the mayor” due to his daily walks through town. He was happiest surrounded by his wife of 55 years, Lenny, whom he adored, and his children. He especially delighted in his many grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Tana Prestipino, his three sisters, Rose, Livia and Mary, and two brothers, Vincent and Charles. Family members include his wife, Lorraine Y. (Lemay) Prestipino of Milford; daughters, Ann Prestipino of Boston, MA, Joan Cappetta and son-in-law Charles Cappetta of Hollis, NH; a son Mark Prestipino and daughter-in-law, Liza Tomai Benson of Bedford, NH; eight grandchildren, Kate, Kelsey, Alyssa and Andrew Cappetta, Nicholas and Michael Prestipino, Katie and John Tomai; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, September 14th at 10:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph Home and Hospice Care, 24 North River Road, Milford, NH 03055 or Share Outreach, Inc., 1 Columbus Avenue, Milford, NH 03055.
