Barbara Schwartz, loving Mother, Grandmother, great Grandmother and Friend, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 8th at her home surrounded by her loving children. Barbara was born on May 17, 1928 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to Nathan and Celia (Brown) Long, where she lived through her school years and met her husband of 63 years, Lew Sayre Schwartz, who predeceased her in 2011. Barbara and Lew moved to Wilton Connecticut in the late 1940s where they settled into their small Techbuilt house on a hilltop by a pond where they raised their 4 children. She loved knitting, needle point, hooking rugs and reading. Barbara ran a small Nursery School from her home for several years and remained in contact with some of the “kids” who participated in her school and shared fond remembrances of Barbara’s warm loving care so many years ago. In 1972 Barbara and Lew moved into the new home they built in Mashpee MA. Barbara worked as a social services assistant helping families in need before she started her own business “KidStore” in Hyannis MA. KidStore sold used children’s clothing and other items with the goal of outfitting needy families with high quality, affordable clothing. Barbara’s store filled a great need in the community and beyond for over a decade. Barbara and Lew moved off Cape Cod in 2003, first to Fall River where Barbara worked in retail sales and then to Peterborough NH in 2007, where they lived out their lives in the warmth of the community at Woodland Heights. Barbara is survived by her 4 children; daughter Jill Weber and husband Frank, son Jed Schwartz and wife Nan, son Andrew Schwartz and partner Shellie, son Nathaniel Schwartz and wife Donna, and 9 grandchildren; Remy Weber and wife Orianna, Christian Schwartz and husband Dave Hanna, Wesley Schwartz and wife Kayla, Reid Schwartz and wife Cody Nowell, Ellie Schwartz, Estella Schwartz, Nadia Schwartz, Tessa Schwartz and Joshua Schwartz and 6 great grandchildren; Sterling Weber, Rainer Weber, Betty Schwartz, Flora Hanna-Schwartz, Otto Schwartz and Lilah Hanna-Schwartz. Barbara will be remembered for her kindness and willingness to help anyone in need without hesitation. She lived her life fully and loved her family with passion. We will all miss her love and attention and cherish our memories of her forever. The family would like to thank Barbara’s caregivers, close friends and neighbors for the loving care and friendship they extended to Barbara especially over the past few months. They were a great comfort to Barbara and her family. We would also like to thank Home Healthcare Hospice & Community Services for the compassionate care they offered Barbara through her end of life journey. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Barbara’s memory to: Healthcare Hospice & Community Services 9 Vose Farm Road, Suite 110 Peterborough, NH 03458 https://www.hcsservices.org/donate/
