Wilton – Barbara Mary Mahar, died peacefully at home, surrounded by loving family members, on Monday, June 26th. She was born and raised in Holyoke, MA, the daughter of Walter F. and Mary E. (Coffey) Crowson after which she resided in South Weymouth, MA for 40 years. Upon her retirement, she and her husband moved to Wilton, NH, where they have spent the last 20 years.
Barbara will be remembered for her artistic ability. She was an established oil and watercolor artist. She was extremely proud of having her art accepted by the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen Fair. She had been a member of the New Hampshire Art Association, the Duxbury Art Association, the Keyes Art Group, and the Sharon Art Center. In addition to being an avid reader and gardener, she had a love for most musical genres.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, William G. Mahar, 4 sons, Michael of Nashua, NH, William of Umatilla, FL, James of Hanover, MA, and Joseph of Everett, WA as well as 1 daughter, Maureen (Healy), of Seattle, WA. Barbara was the loving grandmother to 5 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She was loved dearly by her 7 nieces and nephews. Their support over the past 20 years was of inestimable value to Barbara and Bill.
Mrs. Mahar was predeceased by her only sibling, hero, and best friend Anne E. (Crowson) Cushing in 2007. She will be greatly missed by her dear companion, mentor, and painting partner, Betty Glass of Milford, NH.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH 03055. A Mass of Christian Burial be held on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 10:00 AM in the St. Patrick's Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery, Milford.
In lieu of flowers donations are asked to be made to the American Cancer Society
