Arvid R. B. Wilson, 86, passed away August 10, 2017 after a brief illness. He was born August 24, 1930 in Melrose, MA, the youngest of eight children to Bertul Wilson and Anna B. Krauklis. The Wilson family moved to Amherst NH on May 1st, 1937 [as Arvid would fondly reminisce “First day of fishing season”]. He graduated Amherst High School, and then married his high school sweetheart, now deceased, Bette (Doreen) Teed Wilson. Arvid resided in the home he built in Mont Vernon, NH for the last 58 years. He enjoyed playing cribbage, going to Rockingham Park, walking in the woods, picking blueberries, chopping wood, fishing, feeding the birds and enjoying time with family and friends. Arvid joined the NH National Guard in 1950 followed by serving in the US Air Force from February 1951 to February 1955. He worked at Hanscom Air Force base and the New Boston Air Force Station until his retirement after which he worked part-time for Amherst DPW. He is predeceased by his sisters’ Anne Swanstrom, Bertha Hynes, Sally (Selma) Dyer, Lucy Lawlor and brothers, John Wilson and Willis Wilson. He is survived by a son, Jay Scott Wilson of Mont Vernon, NH; a daughter, Kelley Wilson of Eden, Vermont; two granddaughters, Sarah Jean Wilson and Kasey Lee Wilson; a brother, Carl Wilson of Billerica, MA. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and dear friends. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 16th at 10:30am in the Mont Vernon Congregational Church, 4 South Main Street, Mont Vernon, NH. Burial with military honors will follow in Meadowview Cemetery, Foundry Street, Amherst, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to NH Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276 or to Parkinson’s Disease Research, c/o Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center Development Office, 1 Medical Center Drive, Lebanon, NH 03756.
