Arthur W. Julier

Arthur William Julier, 85, died in the early hours of Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was born in Woodside, NY on August 17, 1927, son of the late Frederick and Anna (Hahnau) Julier. After graduating from Stuyvesant High School in New York City in 1945, Arthur entered the Army Specialized Training Reserve Program at Norwich University in Vermont. He held a BS in industrial engineering from the University of Lowell and an MBA from Rivier College. He was employed for 43 years by Kollsman Instrument Corporation (later KMC), rising from inspector on the manufacturing floor through various positions in quality control to director of manufacturing, and retiring in 1992. He was part of the original group of four who introduced statistical quality control techniques and procedures to Kollsman. His work included production of instrumentation for various NASA and government defense projects. In these various capacities, he mentored many younger co-workers. One of the most important parts of his early life was his role as head acolyte and crucifer at Church of the Heavenly Rest in New York City. All his life, Arthur had a deep commitment to his faith and to the church. He was a devoted member of the Church of Our Saviour, Milford: he served on the vestry, was junior warden, a long-time usher, worked with the youth groups, and loved to cook or manage the grill at the Peach Festival or any church dinner. He was also on the Church Building Fund and Finance Committee. Like his father, Arthur became a member of the Masonic order as a young man, an association he held for over 60 years. He was Deputy Grand Master of the Third Manhattan District, New York City, and after moving to New Hampshire, was welcomed into the Benevolent #7 Lodge in Milford. When not on the golf course Arthur took great pleasure in woodworking; all of his children have cedar chests, bookshelves, tables, lamps, or toys that he made. He learned a love of fishing (especially for bluefish) from his father, which he was especially happy to share with his children and grandchildren. Arthur was married for 63 years to the love of his life, Helen (Kozlow). Together they raised a family that was his joy, pride, and comfort. Arthur was predeceased by his deeply-missed sister Irene (Julier) Carlsson. He is survived by Helen, and his four children: Laura Julier (Lansing, MI), Stephen and Holly Julier (Camarillo, CA), Vivian Julier (Warwick, RI), and Alice Julier and Zachary Rubinstein (Pittsburgh, PA). In addition, he leaves six grandchildren: Emily Colgan, Christopher Colgan, Kyle Julier, Zoe Rubinstein, Nick Julier, and Esme Rubinstein. He was enormously proud of his grandchildren’s many talents-their musical, educational, and athletic accomplishments-and more importantly, of their strong personal characters, the many ways in which they each contribute to good in the world and strive to help others. Calling hours are Sunday, July 14 from 2-4 PM in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, NH. A service of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 15 at 9:30 AM at Church of Our Saviour, 10 Amherst Street, Milford, NH. Burial will follow at 1 PM in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, NH. In lieu of flowers, donations in Arthur’s name may be made to the Church of Our Savior, the American Lung Association, or the Benevolent #7 Masonic Lodge of Milford, NH.
