Arthur L. Hayward, 75, resident of Hillsborough, NH, died August 26, 2010 at Concord Hospital, Concord, NH. He was born in Nashua, NH on March 30, 1935, a son of the late Stanley W. & Myrtle (Hodgeman) Hayward. Mr. Hayward was raised and educated in Milford and graduated from Milford High School, Class of 1953. While in high school, he was captain of the basketball team and served as class president. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree from New England College, Henniker, NH. He lived most of his life in the Milford, Amherst and Wilton area. For many years, he wintered in Marco Island, FL and enjoyed his camp on Nubanusit Lake in Hancock, NH. In the early part of his career, Mr. Hayward was employed as an accountant for New Hampshire Ball Bearing, Peterborough, NH and Sylvania Corporation, Peabody, MA. He was treasurer and general manager of Hayward Farms, Inc., Milford, builder and originator of Milford Motor Motel and Hayward’s Trading Post & Country Store. For 35 years, he worked in sales for Northern Products Log Homes. Mr. Hayward enjoyed fishing, bowling and softball. He served in the New Hampshire National Guard and was a member of the Ancient and Honorable Amoskeag Veterans Militia. Mr. Hayward was predeceased by two brothers, Chester Hayward and Wallace Hayward. Family members include two daughters and a son-in-law, Tamara and John Benjamin of Garrison, NY, Sharman Hayward of Hampton, NH; two sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Laurie Hayward of Buckfield, ME, Michael and Julie Hayward of Bristol, NH; five grandchildren, Elizabeth and William Benjamin, Cameron, Jacob and Garrett Hayward; longtime companion, Alice Hayward of Milford, NH; his former wives, Libby (Howe) Drolet of Wilton, NH and Alice (Short) Hayward of Buckfield, ME; and his nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are Wednesday, September 1st from 3:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford, followed by cremation. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Milford Historical Society, P.O. Box 609, Milford, NH 03055.
