Arthur J. Burke, 92, longtime resident of Lyndeborough, NH, died August 14, 2008 at Harborside Healthcare Center, Milford.� He was born in Paterson, New Jersey on January 15, 1916, a son of the late Arthur & Mae I. (Kincaid) Burke.� Mr. Burke was raised and educated in Fair Lawn, New Jersey and earned a Bachelors Degree in Engineering from Newark College in 1937.� � He met his beloved wife, Margaret, at St. Pauls Church, Paterson, NJ in 1938 and they were married on October 4, 1940.� Mr. Burke was employed in research and development for Richardson Scale Company, Clifton, NJ.� In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served on an LST in the Asiatic Pacific Theatre during World War II.� He was honorably discharged with the rank of Lieutenant in 1946.� Following his naval service, he moved to Oakland, NJ, where he resided for almost 30 years and returned to Richardson Scale Company.� In the mid 1950s, he was promoted to Chief Engineer and later became Vice President of Engineering at Howe Richardson Scale Company.� During the late 1950s and early 60s, Mr. Burke was a member of the faculty and taught the yearly training course for the material handling organization, managed by Jim Bright of Howard University and Jim Apple of University of Michigan held at The Lake Placid Club.� In addition, he was also Vice President and Chief Engineer of Fairbanks Morse, Rutland, VT.� Following his retirement in 1976, he relocated to New Hampshire and purchased the Hudson Bridge Car Wash, which he operated for several years.� In addition, he worked for Abbot Scale Company, Wilton, NH. � He enjoyed antique cars, tractors and took pride in his ability to fix and repair most anything in his home. � Mr. Burke and his late wife enjoyed taking day trips, antiquing and for many years, summered in East Orleans, MA.� In addition, he was an avid boater.� He was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, Milford.� He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Margaret N. (Hansen) Burke, who died in 2006.� Family members include two daughters, Margaret "Peggy" A. Van Blarigan and her husband, Paul Van Blarigan, Sr. of Hollis, NH, Martha "Patty" L. Burke of Lyndeborough, NH; three grandchildren, Paul Van Blarigan, Jr. and his wife, Theresa of Wilton, NH, Amy Carlson and her husband, Benjamin of Deerfield, NH, James Van Blarigan and his wife, Holly of Milford, NH; seven great grandchildren, Stephanie, Paul III, and Madeline Van Blarigan, Jacob Carlson, Sebastian, Kaylie and Cora Van Blarigan; his sister, Grace B. Harris of Bloomingdale, NJ; several nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dogs, Honey Bun and Maysie.� There are no visiting hours.��� A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 23rd at 11:00 am in the Church of Our Saviour, 10 Amherst Street, Milford, NH.� Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Paterson, NJ at a later date.� In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Church of Our Saviour, P.O. Box 237, Milford, NH� 03055.�
