Johanna “Anneke” M. Verhoef, 89, resident of Milford, NH, died on April 23, 2017 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born in The Hague, The Netherlands on December 29, 1927, one of ten children of Jakobus and Gerarda (v.d. Wansem) Cornelisse. While living in The Netherlands, Anneke and her family witnessed the German occupation of Holland during World War II. Following the war, she completed her nursing degree and worked as a registered maternity nurse. Anneke enjoyed bicycling and her trips to the beach at the North Sea. She married, Johannes G. Verhoef in 1957. Anneke and her family came to the United States in 1968. She had worked at various nursing homes and after retiring, she continued volunteer work. Anneke was a loving mother, devoted grandmother and was lovingly known as “Oma” to her grandchildren. She was a devout Catholic and her faith was very important to her. In addition, Anneke enjoyed spending time outside and took great pride in her flower gardens. She was predeceased by her husband, Johannes Verhoef, who died in 2016. Family members include two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcelle and Joseph Oneail of Milford, NH, Patricia and John Marcek of Gales Ferry, CT, and her son Hugh (Jake) of Needmore, PA; her grandchildren, Travis Oneail and his wife Amanda, Kelsey Oneail, Jacob Marcek and his wife Nicolle, Ben Marcek and his wife Bridget, Luke Marcek and his fiancé Hadley, Lauren Verhoef, Rachel Verhoef; and her great grandson, George Marcek, and many nieces, nephews and cousins in The Netherlands and Canada. There are no visiting hours. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 26th at 10:00am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial will follow in Edgewood Cemetery, Nashua.
