Anne M. Zahn

Anne M. Zahn, 88, of Milford, died peacefully at her home on October 19th, in the presence of her loving family. Sebastiana Theresa Mannino, was born at home in Milford, on March 18th, 1925, to Santo and Sebastiana (Passanisi) Mannino, both of Sicily. She was the third of four children; Rose Draper (deceased) of Wilton,Vincent Mannino (deceased) of Milford, and Leonard Mannino of Wells, Maine. Anne graduated from Milford High School, and worked as a reporter for the Milford Cabinet. On June 29th, 1946, she was married to Charles Theodore “Bud” Zahn, who passed away in 2007. They raised their four children in Milford while operating a giftware importing business together. The travel necessitated by the business led to a great fondness for the Alpine regions of Europe, which they visited often. Besides being a homemaker and business partner, Anne also worked at the Wadleigh Memorial Library in Milford for 20 years. She attended St. Patrick’s Church, and was a founding member of the Keyes Art Group. She was also a member of the Milford Historical Society, and Hampshire Hills, where she enjoyed playing tennis well into her eighties. Anne was devoted above all else to her family, but she also pursued many diverse interests throughout her life. She was an avid reader, and an accomplished watercolor artist. She loved gardening and cooking, and everything “Italian”, especially the opera. Anne lived in Milford, the town she loved, for her entire life. She had resided for the last three years at Linsey Landing, in the same building where her mother had worked in the 1930’s. She had just attended her 70th Reunion of the Milford High School, Class of 1943. Family members include her four children, Melody Zahn Russell of Hancock, NH, Lorey Zahn Johnson of Wilton, NH, Peter and Claudia Zahn of Temple, NH, and Karl Zahn of Milford, NH; ten grandchildren, Brad and Adam Zahn, Dominic, Mitchell, and Marlena Zahn, Michelle Russell, Zachary and Rachael Johnson, Matthew and Petra Zahn; six great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews. Memorial visiting hours are on Friday, October 25th from 3:00-7:00 pm in the Smith & Heald Funeral Home, 63 Elm Street, Milford. A memorial mass will be held on Saturday at 10:00 am in St. Patrick’s Church, 34 Amherst Street, Milford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Milford. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Wadleigh Memorial Library, 49 Nashua Street, Milford, NH 03055.
